Scripture: Philippians 2:3–4 (NRSV)
"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others."
Reflection:
True welcome isn’t always easy. It can disrupt our plans, challenge our comfort, or test our habits. Paul’s words remind us that humility is essential: prioritizing others’ needs and respect above our own comfort. That doesn’t mean losing ourselves, but it does mean loosening our grip—on control, assumptions, or routine—so someone else can feel they belong.
Application (Action):
Do one thing today that puts someone else’s experience before your own. Let go of a small preference—whether in a meeting, at home, or in worship—and see it as a chance to practice Christlike humility.
Writing Prompt:
What is one part of your life where God might be inviting you to release control, comfort, or assumptions to create space for someone else?
Prayer:
Jesus, you welcomed me with humility and grace. Help me offer the same. Give me the courage to release what’s familiar so others can feel at home. Let my life reflect the generous welcome of your kin-dom. Amen.
