Return to 2 Kings 22:8–13:
Read the passage slowly. Sit quietly for one minute. Then read it again.
Today, don’t hurry past verse 11. Stay with Josiah’s response. Resist the temptation to explain it. Simply notice what happens after he hears the words.

Reflection:
For three days, we’ve watched the story unfold one step at a time.
The scroll was discovered.
The ordinary work continued.
It was read aloud.
Now, for the first time, we see what happens when God’s Word is truly received.
Josiah tears his robes.
We may not instinctively understand that response, but we can recognize what it represents. He does not argue with what he has heard. He does not explain it away or protect himself from it. The words reach him deeply enough that he can no longer see himself, his people, or God in quite the same way. Before anything changes in the kingdom, something changes within the king. Genuine transformation rarely begins with what we do. It begins with seeing differently.
Scripture has reached its first goal. It has done more than inform Josiah; it has interrupted him. It has exposed a truth he can no longer ignore and invited him into a different way of living. That is often how God’s Word works in our lives as well. Before it changes our habits, it changes our vision. Before it reshapes our actions, it reshapes the way we see ourselves, our neighbors, and God. Transformation begins long before anyone else notices it.
For some of us, our Star Word can become one place to notice this same work. If you’ve been carrying a Star Word this year, hold it beside today’s passage. Ask whether this story is changing the way you hear that word. Don’t force an answer or look for a perfect connection. Simply notice whether God’s Word is quietly reshaping something you thought you already understood.
Practice:
Read 2 Kings 22:8–13 one more time today. Notice one sentence that reaches you differently than it did on Sunday. Write one sentence beginning: “Today I see...”
Do not try to explain why your understanding has changed. Simply name what you notice.

Gracious God, thank you for speaking words that reach deeper than my assumptions. Continue shaping the way I hear, the way I understand, and the way I live. Open my eyes to see myself, my neighbors, and you more clearly, that my life may be continually formed by your grace. Amen.
