Scripture: Luke 2:1–20 (NRSV)
Key Verse: “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy.” (Luke 2:10)
Reflection:
Fear often thrives in silence and isolation. So God fills the night sky with angels and music. The first Christmas doesn’t happen in a peaceful world — it takes place amidst occupation, uncertainty, and fear. And yet, God chooses that very moment to proclaim good news.
The angels do not deny the reality of fear; they interrupt it. They proclaim joy not because circumstances are perfect, but because God is present. Love enters the world not as an escape, but as a transforming presence.
Christmas Eve invites us to listen again—to hear the good news spoken into our own fears. Love arrives not after fear has passed, but right in the middle of it.
Application:
Light a candle tonight and sit with the story of Christmas, allowing yourself to absorb the good news slowly.
Writing Prompt:
What fear do you need the Christmas story to speak into this year?
Prayer:
God of angels and starlight,
quiet our fears and open our hearts.
Help us receive the joy you offer tonight.
Amen.
