Scripture: Habakkuk 1:2 (NRSV)
“O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you ‘Violence!’ and you will not save?”
Reflection:
There are seasons when prayer feels like shouting into the wind. Habakkuk states what many faithful people hesitate to admit—sometimes it seems like God isn’t listening. His cry, “How long?” resonates through every age where suffering and injustice continue. Still, his honesty is also an act of faith. It takes courage to keep talking to God when you’re unsure if God will answer.
God can handle our questions. The silence of heaven doesn’t mean God is absent; it often means we’re being stretched to trust in ways we don’t yet understand. Even when we feel frustrated, God is teaching us to listen differently — to seek not only solutions but also relationship.
Application:
Bring one honest question to God today. Don’t dress it up. Pray it plainly and leave space for quiet.
Writing Prompt:
What is a prayer you’ve stopped praying because it felt unanswered? What would it mean to start praying it again?
Prayer:
Listening God, even when I cannot hear You, help me trust that you are near. Teach me to wait without giving up and to believe that silence does not mean absence. Amen.
