Scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10a (NRSV)
Reflection:
Stillness isn’t a passive state—it’s a spiritual practice. The call to be still is an invitation to cultivate awareness until we notice the quiet hum of God’s presence below all noise. This type of listening takes patience. It demands slow training of the soul, much like strengthening a muscle that has become weak from neglect.
We cannot act with courage unless we first listen for the One who guides us. Stillness is the classroom of discernment. In silence, we begin to distinguish God’s voice from the echo of our fears, and God’s call from the crowd’s clamor.
Application:
Spend 10 minutes today in silent prayer. Set aside your phone and agenda. Breathe and listen. End by whispering, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”
Writing Prompt:
What keeps me from being still long enough to listen for God? What might change if I made stillness a daily practice?
Prayer:
Speaking God, teach my restless soul to listen. Quiet my striving so that your voice becomes clear. Form in me a heart that recognizes your presence in every moment. Amen.
