Scripture: “Though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea… we will not fear.” — Psalm 46:2 (NRSV)
Reflection:
Stillness before God is an act of resistance. In a world addicted to reaction—scrolling, posting, panicking—choosing to pause is holy defiance. It declares that fear does not control us and chaos does not define us. “We will not fear,” the psalmist says, not because the world is calm, but because God remains unshaken.
Every time we refuse to let anxiety control our actions, we practice faith. Stillness isn’t weakness; it’s preparation. It trains our hearts to respond instead of react, to base our courage not on control but on trust.
Application:
When you encounter something stressful today—a conflict, decision, or headline—pause before you respond. Take a deep breath, and whisper, “I will not fear. God is here.”
Writing Prompt:
How have I let fear guide my actions? What does holy defiance look like in those moments?
Prayer:
God of peace and power, still the noise that drives me toward fear. Help me rest in your presence long enough to act with courage and compassion. Amen.
