Scripture: “Just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:6, NRSV)
Reflection:
Jeremiah was invited to the potter’s house to observe clay being shaped on the wheel. The potter’s hands pressed and guided the clay, reshaping it whenever it faltered. The scene is earthy and real — hands messy with mud, effort visible in every turn of the wheel. God uses this image to show Jeremiah, and us, that divine hands shape our lives just as tenderly and persistently.
It is comforting to remember that God doesn’t abandon us when we fall short. Instead, God reshapes and redevelops our lives, creating something new from what once felt broken or ruined. Transformation isn’t always easy — the clay must be softened, pressed, and stretched — but it’s never wasted. God’s hands never leave us, even when we resist.
Application: Hold something tangible in your hands today—clay, dough, or soil. As you work it, envision God’s hands moving in your life.
Writing Prompt: Where in your life do you sense God is shaping you right now?
Prayer: God, keep your hands on me. Shape me with patience and love until I reflect your image more clearly. Amen.
