Scripture: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (NRSV)
Reflection:
Psalm 46 starts not with calm but with crisis. The earth shifts, the mountains tremble, the waters roar. The psalmist doesn’t deny the chaos—he acknowledges it. Faith begins there, in honesty. When everything around us feels unstable, God does not promise a way out but presence: a present help in trouble.
Stillness is not naivety; it’s the discipline of remembering who holds the ground beneath our feet. To be still before God is to stand amid shaking and say, “This is not the end. God is still here.” In that awareness, courage is born—not without fear, but trust stronger than fear.
Application:
Take five intentional minutes today to stand or sit in silence. Name the “shaking” you feel around or within you, and slowly repeat, “God is my refuge and strength.”
Writing Prompt:
Where do I most feel the ground shifting in my life right now—and how might I experience God’s presence there?
Prayer:
Steadfast God, when the world trembles, anchor me in your presence. Teach me to be still—not to escape reality, but to remember that you are its foundation. Give me faith that steadies fear. Amen.
