Scripture: Matthew 1:18–25 (NRSV)
Key Verse: “Joseph did as the angel of the Lord commanded him.” (Matthew 1:24a)
Reflection:
Joseph’s obedience isn’t flashy or dramatic. It’s quiet, steady, and deeply relational. He doesn’t suddenly understand everything—he simply chooses to stay. To stay with Mary. To stay open to God’s unfolding work. To stay faithful when fear might have provided a simpler way out.
In a culture that often celebrates quick decisions and self-protection, Joseph represents a different kind of courage. Love gives him the strength to keep showing up. Love grounds him in commitment rather than certainty.
Advent reminds us that faithfulness often looks like returning again tomorrow—continuing to walk alongside others even when the road ahead feels unclear. Staying is not weakness. Staying is love practiced every day.
Application:
Reach out to someone you’ve been meaning to check on, even if the conversation feels awkward or overdue.
Writing Prompt:
Who has supported you during a difficult season, and what did their presence mean to you?
Prayer:
God of faithful love,
thank you for those who have stayed by our side.
Give us the courage to offer that same gift to others.
Amen.
