Scripture: “At one moment I may declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, but if that nation… turns from its evil, I will change my mind.” (Jeremiah 18:7–8, NRSV)
Reflection:
Jeremiah’s vision shows a God who is relational rather than rigid. God is not bound to a single plan but responds to human choices with mercy and justice. The potter reshapes the clay, not to abandon it, but to create new possibilities. This means that God’s work in us is always focused on restoration, not destruction.
We are created not for self-interest but for love. God’s work in our lives always guides us toward compassion, reconciliation, and justice. Sometimes that process involves breaking old patterns or softening hard places in our hearts. But the outcome is a life in line with God’s purposes — a vessel that carries love into the world.
Application: Show love in action today — call someone, encourage someone, or meet a simple need. Let your life reflect the love God is shaping in you.
Writing Prompt: In what ways do you feel that God is shaping you for love during this season?
Prayer: God of love, shape my life to reflect your justice, mercy, and compassion. Amen.
