Reflection:
On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus did not give his disciples a complicated method for prayer. Instead, he gave them an invitation: “Abide in me as I abide in you.” The word abide means to remain, to dwell, to make your home in someone else’s presence. It is the language of relationship, not performance. Jesus reminds his followers that just as branches draw life by remaining connected to the vine, disciples grow by remaining connected to Jesus.
The deepest relationships in our lives are not built through extraordinary conversations. They grow through ordinary moments shared together. Friendships deepen over countless ordinary interactions. Families are shaped around dinner tables. Lifelong marriages are sustained not by grand gestures every day but by choosing, again and again, to remain present with one another. There are days when conversation flows easily and days when silence says enough. What matters most is continuing to show up.
If you received a Star Word earlier this year, perhaps today is a good day to take it out again. Sit with it quietly in God’s presence. You don’t have to figure it out or make anything happen. Simply let it become one more way of abiding in Christ.
Prayer is much the same. Some days our words come quickly. Other days we struggle to find anything to say. There may even be seasons when we simply sit quietly in God’s presence. That does not mean our prayers have failed. Grace doesn’t wait for the right words. It meets us in the simple act of showing up. Over time, our lives become more deeply rooted in Christ, and we discover that prayer is less about finding the right words and more about remaining in the relationship.

Who has helped shape your life simply by being present? How might that relationship help you understand Jesus’ invitation to “abide” in him?
Application:
Set aside five quiet minutes today. Resist the urge to fill every moment with words. Simply become aware of God’s presence. If your mind wanders, gently return to Jesus’ invitation: “Abide in me.”
Prayer:
Gracious God, thank you for inviting me into relationship with you. When I worry about saying the right words or praying the right way, remind me that you first desire my presence. Teach me to remain in you each day, trusting that your grace is at work even in the quiet moments. As I abide in Christ, shape my life so that I may bear the fruit of your love in the world. Amen.
