Scripture: Luke 10:41–42 (NRSV)
"But the Lord answered her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing.'"
Reflection:
As the week comes to a close, we return to the story of Mary and Martha — not to repeat the lesson, but to go deeper. Jesus doesn’t rebuke Martha for serving; He invites her to let go of what’s distracting her from connection. The problem isn’t activity — it’s anxiety and divided attention. We often multitask through life and faith — always doing, rarely being. Practicing presence means giving our full attention to God, others, and ourselves. It means slowing down enough to notice where God is moving and responding with gratitude. What might it look like to live more grounded, more aware, more open?
Application:
Take a walk or sit outside today for 15 minutes without your phone. Notice the details of creation around you. Let it be a time of quiet presence with God.
Writing Prompt:
When was the last time you felt fully present—with God, with someone else, or with yourself? What helps you return to that state?
Prayer:
God of every moment, I confess that I often rush past your presence. Help me slow down today. Teach me to notice, to breathe, to listen. May I choose presence over pressure, stillness over striving, and connection over control. Amen.
