Scripture: John 7:38
“Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.”
Reflection:
Jesus doesn’t describe the Spirit as a lake to admire but as a river that flows. The Spirit’s goal is not containment but abundance—an ever-expanding circle of life and love. When we allow God’s grace to flow through us, others are uplifted, and we ourselves are renewed.
This is the natural conclusion of Joel’s promise and Jesus’ invitation: what God pours in must flow out. The measure of spiritual maturity is not how much we have received but how freely we give. Rivers stay fresh because they move; stagnant water spoils. The same is true of faith.
As this week concludes, remember: God has not only inscribed the Word within you but also poured out the Spirit through you. Live as someone whose life flows with grace, connecting to the greater river that guides the world toward healing.
Application: Perform one act of kindness today that allows living water to flow through you.
Writing Prompt: How has God been flowing through you this week?
Prayer:
God of living streams,
thank you for pouring your Spirit into our lives.
Let your love overflow from us
until the world is drenched in grace. Amen.
