Scripture: Luke 1:26–38 (NRSV)
Key Verse:
“Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be?’” (Luke 1:34)
Reflection:
Mary does not respond to God’s call with blind acceptance. She asks a question. Love, in this story, does not demand silence or certainty—it invites honesty. God does not rebuke Mary for her curiosity; instead, God stays in the conversation.
Fear often suggests that questions are signs of weakness. But love fosters space for wondering, wrestling, and learning. Mary’s question becomes part of her faith, not an obstacle to it.
This Advent season encourages us to believe that love can contain our questions. God is not alarmed by what we have yet to understand.
Application & Reflection Prompt:
What question are you currently holding in your faith or life?
Write it down as an act of prayer, trusting that God welcomes your honesty.
Prayer:
Patient God,
thank you for loving us enough to meet us in our questions.
Give us courage to keep asking and listening.
Amen.
