Scripture: Jeremiah 1:4–10 (NRSV)
Key Verse:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” (Jeremiah 1:5a)
Reflection:
Jeremiah’s call starts not with instructions, but with intimacy. Before he’s asked to speak or act, God reminds him that he is already known. Love, in Scripture, often begins this way—not with demands, but with relationship.
Fear tells us we are unqualified, unready, or unseen. Love counters that narrative by calling us beloved before anything else. God’s call does not erase Jeremiah’s fear; it grounds him in the truth that he is neither an accident nor an afterthought.
Advent love reassures us that our lives are already part of God’s story. Before we do anything for God, we belong to God.
Application & Reflection Prompt:
What fears make you believe you are “not enough”?
Write a response to those fears from the perspective of being known and loved by God.
Prayer:
Knowing God,
thank you for calling us by name before calling us to act.
Help us rest in your love as we listen for your voice.
Amen.
