Scripture:
John 1:1–5 (NRSV)
Key Verse:
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” — John 1:5
Reflection:
Christmas Day may be behind us on the calendar, but the story is far from over. In fact, this is often when the true meaning of Christmas begins to take hold. The crowds thin out. The noise quiets down. The decorations linger just a little longer. And in that quiet moment, the light becomes easier to see.
John’s Gospel doesn’t start with shepherds or angels. It begins with the Word—eternal, relational, creative—entering the darkness of the world. Not to overpower it. Not to erase it. But to dwell within it. This is the heart of Christmas: God choosing presence over distance, intimacy over control, love over fear.
As we start this week, we are encouraged to let the light keep guiding us. Not just as a memory we hold onto, but as a living reality that shapes how we see ourselves, our neighbors, and the world God so loves.
Application (Practice):
Today, intentionally slow down once. Pause before moving to the next task, screen, or conversation, and take three deep breaths—receiving the moment as a gift.
Writing Prompt:
Where have you noticed light finding you during this Christmas season—especially in unexpected ways? Write about one moment that feels worth carrying with you into the days ahead.
Prayer:
God of light,
thank you for meeting us exactly where we are.
Help us stay open to your presence as Christmas continues to unfold within us.
Amen.
