Scripture: Matthew 11:4–5 (NRSV)
Key Verse: “Go and tell John what you hear and see.”
Reflection
Jesus’ response to John begins with hearing and observing. Joy often starts the same way. During discouraging seasons, our focus narrows—fear becomes loud, anxiety takes over, and imagination diminishes. Jesus softly broadens the perspective: Look. Listen. Pay attention. God’s work is already in progress, even if John cannot see it from his cell.
This week encourages us to cultivate that same expanded awareness. Where are the stories of healing within our community? Where is compassion quietly being demonstrated? Where are small acts of generosity transforming the atmosphere of fear into something more life-affirming? When we listen for these signs of grace, our hearts begin to realign with hope.
Joy isn’t just found when all problems are fixed, but when we let good news reach us again. It draws us back into a world where God is present, active, and constantly healing. Like John, we sometimes need others to remind us—to bring hope when we can’t feel it ourselves.
Application
Reach out to someone today and share a story of hope or kindness. Be a messenger of joy for someone else.
