Scripture: Matthew 11:28 (NRSV)
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Reflection:
Many of us feel exhausted in ways that sleep alone can’t heal. We are tired from trying to hold everything together and from carrying expectations that never seem to loosen their grip. Sometimes, the heaviest burden we bear is the belief that faith demands constant effort.
Jesus offers a different invitation. He does not ask us to work harder or believe more strongly. He invites us to come as we are—tired, uncertain, worn down—and to rest. This rest is not about escape or avoidance; it is about trust. It is the choice to stop measuring our worth by how much we do or how well we perform.
Grace reminds us that rest is not a reward for faithful living. It is part of faithful living. When we let go of the need to prove ourselves, we create space for God’s love to quietly work within us.
Practice:
Set aside five intentional minutes today with no agenda—no fixing, no planning, no productivity. Simply rest in God’s presence.
Journaling Prompt:
What expectations or pressures might grace be encouraging you to release?
Prayer:
Gentle Christ,
you see our weariness and do not turn us away.
Teach us to trust your invitation to rest
and to release what we were never meant to carry.
Help us receive your grace — not as something to earn,
but as a gift that holds us grounded.
Amen.
