Scripture: Haggai 2:1–4 (NRSV)
“Take courage… all you people of the land, says the Lord; work, for I am with you.”
Reflection:
When Haggai spoke, the people had returned from exile in Babylon to Jerusalem, tired and unsure. They were home, but it didn’t feel like home yet. The temple was in ruins, the city was scarred, and memories of “how it used to be” filled their hearts. God doesn’t scold their discouragement; instead, God meets them there.
That’s the kind of God we worship, not one who waits at the finish line, but one who shows up in the middle of the rubble, whispering, “Take courage… for I am with you.” Even when our progress feels slow or our faith feels fragile, God’s presence makes the work holy.
Application:
Take a few moments to notice where you feel tired or unsure. Invite God to meet you there, without judgment or haste.
Writing Prompt:
Where in your life do you most need to hear God say, “Take courage… for I am with you”?
Prayer:
God who meets us in the mess, strengthen my heart to begin again. Remind me that your presence is all I need. Amen.
