Scripture (NRSV): 1 Corinthians 3:6–7
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”
Reflection: Paul reminds us that disciple-making is not ultimately our achievement. We can plant seeds of faith and nurture relationships, but only God causes growth. This truth should both humble and free us. It humbles us because we are not in control of someone else’s transformation. It frees us because we don’t carry the burden of producing results. Our role is to participate in God’s work by showing up faithfully, offering grace, and pointing to Jesus. God is the one who makes disciples, but he chooses to work through us.
Application: Pray for someone who is far from Christ or facing difficulties in faith. Ask God to do what only God can do, and seek God’s guidance on how you can be part of their journey.
Writing Prompt: Where have you seen God bring growth beyond your efforts?
Prayer: God of growth, remind me that this is your work. Help me stay faithful in planting and watering, and trust you with the harvest. Amen.
