Scripture: 1 Kings 19:12 — “…and after the fire a sound of sheer silence.”
Reflection:
Elijah was exhausted and ready to give up under the weight of fear and violence. God met him not in the earthquake, wind, or fire — but in sheer silence. In that rest, Elijah was renewed and sent back to resist injustice with courage.
We, too, need rhythms of rest to keep working toward justice. Without silence and renewal, even prophets burn out. Rest is not a retreat from the fight but God’s way of strengthening us for it.
Application: Step away from noise today. Spend time in silence, listening for God’s whisper that renews courage.
Writing Prompt: Where do I need God’s whisper to restore me for the work of justice?
Prayer:
Whispering God, meet me in the quiet. Renew my courage so I may rise again to resist what is wrong and embody your hope. Amen.
