Scripture (NRSV): Proverbs 27:17
“Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens the wits of another.”
Reflection: Discipleship is not one-way. We often see it as a teacher and student, but scripture reveals something deeper: mutual sharpening. As we walk with others, we shape and are shaped. When we encourage, we are also encouraged. When we guide, we are also stretched. This reciprocity prevents discipleship from becoming prideful or passive. It reminds us that faith is a shared journey in which each person grows in Christ through relationship.
Application: Thank someone who has strengthened your faith — with a message, note, or call of gratitude.
Writing Prompt: Who sharpens you in your discipleship, and how?
Prayer: God, thank you for those who walk with me. Teach me to be both a learner and a guide, as you shape me through others. Amen.
