Scripture:
Luke 1:34–38 (NRSV)
Key Verse:
“Let it be with me according to your word.” — Luke 1:38
Reflection:
Mary’s response to the angel is not based on certainty. She asks questions. She voices her confusion. Yet, she chooses to trust. Her yes is not passive—it is brave, relational, and rooted in the confidence that God will be with her through whatever happens.
As one year ends and another begins, we often seek clarity before making commitments. Mary shows us another approach. Faith doesn’t always need answers. Sometimes it just requires openness—to possibility, to partnership, to becoming part of something bigger than ourselves.
God does not force Mary’s yes. God invites it. That invitation still echoes in our lives today.
Application (Practice):
As the year comes to a close, say one simple phrase aloud—such as “I am open,” or “I trust you, God”—and let it represent your attitude rather than your plans.
Writing Prompt:
As one year ends and another begins, what questions are you carrying forward? Write a prayer of openness—naming both your hopes and your uncertainties—without needing clear answers.
Prayer:
God of invitation,
give us the courage to respond with trust,
knowing you walk with us into what’s next.
Amen.
